Confession

With Alan Arkin’s Best Supporting Actor Oscar win and the buzz following, it made me remember Adam Arkin (his son) and the devotion I had to Chicago Hope in the 90s.

I had the BIGGEST crush on this guy a decade ago.  HUGE.

It Runs in the Family

Is there a 12-Step Program available for preschoolers addicted to Hershey Kisses?

Evren and Hershey Kisses

Well, ok, to his credit, he did take a break from the Hershey Kisses to munch on a graham cracker slathered in icing and sprinkles (of his own creation).

Evren and Icing

This was at a Valentine’s party earlier in the month. He gave a half-hearted attempt at the crafts and then it was back to the Hershey Kisses. Yeah, he’s definitely my kid.

Despite My Best Parenting Efforts

A little exchange that took place earlier today…

Jenn: (looking outside) “Um, Evren? Do you want to tell me what your underwear is doing on the trampoline?”

Evren (age 3): “Do you want to look at my butt?” (hysterical laughter)

Accents

Go the The Speech Accent Archive to hear the following paragraph in just about any accent from around the world.

Please call Stella. Ask her to bring these things with her from the store: Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob. We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids. She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station.

Just within English alone there are 195 versions.

I’ve wasted way too much time there and I really need to get up.  and go do some laundry.  or something useful.

Not Sure…

Your Personality is Very Rare (INFP)

Your personality type is dreamy, romantic, elegant, and expressive.
Only about 5% of all people have your personality, including 6% of all women and 4% of all men. You are Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving.

How Rare Is Your Personality?

Er, elegant? I think that one’s off the mark. And dreamy…does that mean I daydream a lot because that’s definitely true. It’s a goofy quiz that takes about 5 seconds.

Aside: 10:50pm Sunday night, OMG is this the longest Oscar telecast EVER? And I don’t like Ellen’s hair.

The Virgin Blue

My latest read, just finished it today…

The Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier

I picked it up the other day on a whim when I went to the bookstore looking for something else.

This is the same author as The Girl With the Pearl Earring, so if you liked that book, you’ll like this one, as they are in the same vein.

The Virgin Blue

Here’s a summary to give you a taste…

When American Ella Turner moves with her husband to Lisle-sur-Tarn, a small town in southwestern France, she hopes to qualify to practice as a midwife as well as to start a family of her own. Instead she is disrupted by less-than-idyllic village life and strange dreams of the color blue. Haunted by sleepless nights, bewildered by her unwelcoming neighbors, Ella tries to forge a bond with her new home by investigating her French ancestors, with the help of seductive librarian Jean-Paul. Ella’s research takes her to the Cévennes, isolated mountains in the south and the birthplace of the Tournier/Turner family.

16th-century peasant Isabelle du Moulin, known as La Rousse for her red hair, is suspected of witchcraft and tormented for her association with the Virgin Mary even after she and the rest of the village have converted to the “Truth” – the new Protestantism as preached by Calvin’s ministers. When she becomes pregnant, she has no choice but to marry into the powerful Tournier family. The Massacre of St. Bartholomew in Paris sends waves of persecution throughout France, and the Tourniers are forced to flee their home near Le Pont de Montvert for a new life in the Swiss town of Moutier. Old ways follow them there, however, and Isabelle’s final shocking fate lies undiscovered — until Ella Turner’s arrival four centuries later…

I loved The Girl With the Pearl Earring, having read it twice now, and this book was also enjoyable.  There’s a bit of French and Christian history to wade through so it definitely has more depth than your typical chick lit.  Lovely and sad at the same time.

Demotivators

I’d seen these before and forgot about them and then just now stumbled upon them again.

They are hilarious and mostly true (in my opinion).  Here’s my favorite…

Compromise

You can see the rest of them here at despair.com and even order calendars & notecards with your favorite ones.

Pineapple Zucchini Bread

It’s what’s gonna be for breakfast this week.

I made two loaves today…

Pineapple Zucchini Loaves

Pineapple Zucchini Bread

For the photo police (er, mom) the top photo is mine and the bottom photo is courtesy of Pillsbury.  I wanted you to see how luscious it looked with a smear of butter on top. <grin>

I just sliced open one of them to see how it tasted before I gave my opinion here and they are dense and very, very moist at the same time.  Very yummy.

Instead of typing the entire recipe here, I found a site that has already done that for me.

Here is the recipe I used over at Recipe Zaar.  I originally found the recipe in the September 2006 Pillsbury Cookbooklet.  I have a minor addiction to those little cookbooks they have in the checkout lines.  This particular one was 100+ Recipes & Tips for Hamburger.  Well, yeah, who could use more recipes for ground beef?!  Of course I needed that!
