Yesterday in the post office there was a nice young guy in a wheelchair. Evren picked up on this immediately and started asking lots of questions. Loudly. I steered the conversation to how cool the wheelchair was and how fast it probably goes. Which worked for a few minutes until the guy turned a bit and Evren noticed he only had one leg and again….loud questions. The guy was a good sport about it, thankfully.
So, when we got back in the car, I used the opportunity to talk about how everybody’s different, etc. Ayla caught on to this fairly quickly when she was little, thankfully. Within minutes, he got bored of the lecture, and demanded I talk about something else. Fine.
So, this morning, we were chatting about something else and I tried to work in the whole ‘everyone is different’ angle once more, and Evren played along. This was the result…
Jenn: “If somebody looks different than us, do we make fun of them?”
Evren: “Nooo…..”
Jenn: “And if somebody looks different than us, should we be scared of them?”
Evren: “Noooo….(pause) We laugh at them!”
Jenn: (groan)
Let’s go through this one more time…
