Crescent Layer Bars

Meet the reason I’ve gained 5 pounds since Monday…

Crescent Layer Bars

It’s probably never a good idea for me to make a recipe that involves a step that says now…pour that entire can of sweetened condensed milk all over the top of it.

Needless to say, they are yummy.

Meatball Bubble Biscuits

It’s an unfortunate name for this recipe but we did have fun eating them. I had bought a big ol’ bag of frozen meatballs from Target last week on impulse with no idea what I might do with them once I got them home. Then, I came across this recipe by accident.

Slightly tedious, but not too bad. I think they are actually intended to be an appetizer, but I doubled the recipe and made them for dinner. Turns out they fill you up, so really, there was no need to double the recipe. We’ll be eating them for days. They were yummy – no weird ingredients, no reason for the kids to complain, no chance of screwing up the recipe. Super easy.

No Posts Lately – Apology

I’m completely bored with the internet lately and I have a bad addiction to The O.C. raging. I’m sorry.

Damn Bees

We went to the playground yesterday and about 5 minutes after we got there, Evren screamed and it was pretty obvious he was stung by a bee right on his cheek. He knew what had happened to him, so I guess he saw it. It hurt him pretty bad, poor thing. But, good news is, we now know he isn’t allergic to bee stings. So, my remedy, was to put a cold Capri Sun on his cheek, because that was all I had. I do have a medicine kit that I carried around in my car for years, not once using it, and that was, at the time, sitting on the floor of the garage.

Luckily, there was another mom there, who was much more prepared with a medicine kit, wipes, some special wipe for insect stings, anti-bacterial lotion, etc. I guess I’ll put my medicine kit back in the car.

Anyway, Evren was then terrified of everything flying/moving thing at the park and wouldn’t leave my side for a good 10 minutes. He finally started playing again after I fed him lots of Cheez-Its and promised him, IT WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN.

5 minutes later, he got stung again. On his shoulder. We left. And I’m quite certain we won’t be going back to that park again.

Then, for the rest of the day, because his cheek was puffy, I kept forgetting and asking him, “Evren, what are you eating?! What have you got in your mouth?!”

“Um, nothing mommy.”

Poor kid. He’s fine now, but fantastic stories of “large daddy bees” are being told over and over.

Skin Color

Background: Anchovie (Anchovy?) is one of Evren’s pretend friends. He has four currently.

Evren: “Mom, you know Anchovie’s mom? She is white.”

Jenn: (horrified, because I go out of my way not to mention skin color as a definition of someone and surely not as ‘white’ or ‘black’) “Um, what do you mean?”

Evren: “She’s WHITE. And her brothers and sisters are white too.”

Jenn: “Do you mean the color of her skin?”

Evren: “Yes. She’s WHITE!”

Jenn: “Um, ok, well, what color is your skin?” (please, please, please…)

Evren: “Yellow. Well, dark yellow, of course.”

Jenn: (sigh of relief)

This swirly delight is dark chocolate on top and scrubby coffee on the bottom. Made with real dark chocolate! It smells delicious and is SUPER exfoliating because of the ground coffee. If you have sensitive skin it works as a great foot soap and can be used on the rough spots like elbows instead of the whole body.
