Water for Elephants

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

Water for Elephants

My mom read this book, loved it, and then loaned it to me.  Well, actually she forced me to take it and demanded that I read it, insisting that I would, too, love it.  After two chapters I wanted to stop.  It was soooo slow and it sat there on my nightstand untouched for the next 10 days while I read the last Harry Potter book and my August book club book, The Handmaid’s Tale.  Then, due to a delayed flight and having nothing else to read, I finally started reading it again – and of course, my mom was right.

It was a beautiful book and I can definitely see why it’s on the best seller list.  I would highly recommend it.

Oh, and Mom?  I’m keeping it.

My Love of Paul Auster

It’s true, I love many. Today I will declare to the world my love of Paul Auster.

Paul Auster

Here is my favorite photograph of a younger Mr. Auster, that is on many of his book jackets.

Oh! Yes, of course he is an author. (What did you think?!) Of course, I have never met him. But, I like to think of him as he is in this photo. He is actually much older now, but I don’t care… his books are wonderful, by the way.

I’ve just finished reading Oracle Night. I literally couldn’t put it down.

Oracle Night

Out of the several of his books I’ve read, this was definitely my favorite so far.

I’ve also read The Red Notebook, The Invention of Solitude, and The Book of Illusions. None are the same. None are similar.

According to Amazon, I may never be able to read all the books he has written.

Update: It’s a few hours later… I went out to Half-Price books because I had a coupon intending to buy one book and came home with three more Paul Auster books. I guess I’m just in a mood today.

Watching

I was completely captivated by this movie.

The Painted Veil

I’m not sure why I had it on my Netflix list in the first place, as I was certain I would be bored by it. Even after watching, I can’t say exactly why it was so moving, but it was a really beautiful movie.

Update:
Review by Tara:
Last night we watched the Painted Veil, and you were right — it was very moving. I really liked it. Naomi Watts is so cute – I love her little chipmunk cheeks! And the landscape was amazing. Apparently it was filmed in an incredibly remote area.

His Needs are Minimal

Evren’s concept of packing for a trip… if given 3 suitcases, this is what he would take…

(If you are wondering where is Hot Wheels are, about 500 of those would be stuffed into his little Curious George backpack, so he’d have that covered.)

That’s a stuffed armadillo, in case you are wondering.

Trust the Man

You will be just fine if you don’t see this movie.

Trust the Man

It was just ok.  I like the cast but it was nothing original.

Tired of Shopping at the Grocery Store?

Found this awesome site that has a very thorough list (or so it seems) of Farmers Markets across the nation.

FarmersMarkets.com

Go check it out.
