Watching

Changeling

changeling

I love Angelina Jolie, so I thought I would really like this movie.  Then about 15 minutes into it, I was absolutely certain I would not like it.  But, I kept watching and what do you know?  I really liked it.  And bonus, I didn’t realize until the credits at the end, it was directed by Clint Eastwood.   It was a little depressing, sure, but overall I thought it was very well done.

How to Sleep Alone in a King-Size Bed by Theo Pauline Nestor

how-to-sleep-alone

This is not the sort of book I would’ve thought to buy on my own.  But one of my dear friends came across it one day and casually suggested it to me, so I added it to my amazon wish list.  Later, long after I had forgotten who had recommended it, I bought it.  And then read it.  And I really, really liked it.

Here’s my favorite quote:  It’s undeniable that there are dozens of moments each week when two parents could probably do with relative ease the tasks I find nearly impossible…

If you have a connection to this issue, I would highly recommend this book - it’s sweet and funny and very comforting.

(I did, after all, remember who had recommended it to me, Thanks M!!)

Free Fun

Build n Grow at Lowe’s again this past Saturday.  Ayla ditched us for a sleepover so it was just Evren and I hanging out that morning.  He built a Tabletop Basketball game.  And didn’t take those goggles off for the next 24 hours.

For every craft you complete they give you a patch for your apron, so when we got home I pulled out my sewing kit and sewed the patch on his apron.  Never has he apparently seen something so fascinating as he declared “MOM!  I DIDN’T KNOW YOU COULD SEW!!” and then made his sister come in and look at this amazing phenomena also.  Shock and awe.  Then Evren said he wanted a sewing kit for his birthday.

Reading

Immortality by Kevin Bohacz

Immortality

I am always in search for the perfect sci-fi novel.  It’s so elusive.

This one was okay.  I enjoyed reading it, but it was pretty predictable and there’s a little concept called *editing* that the author failed to grasp.  It was a farily long read and took me a few weeks to get through.  Might be a good book if you have a really long plane ride to get through.

Free Fun

What mom doesn’t love the word FREE?  We’ve been to the Home Depot Saturday kid’s craft morning before a few times, and this weekend we finally made it to the one at Lowe’s.  They were building a race car and I didn’t want Evren to miss out.

Feed Me:  Writers Dish About Food, Eating, Weight, and Body Image edited by Harriet Brown

Feed Me

Had some great essays that I thoroughly enjoyed, some were just ok, and some I just had to skim through.  It’s always comforting to read about other women’s internal struggles, perceptions of others, and how they feel about their own bodies.

This paragraph about the book sums it up nicely:  Exploring the bonds between appetite and remorse, hunger and longing, satisfaction and desire, this anthology is for every woman who’s ever felt guilty about eating dessert, or gushed over a friend’s weight loss, or wished she had a different body.

Watching

City of Ember

City of Ember

Evren:  Good.  Cool.

Ayla:  My favorite part was the whole movie because I thought it was awesome.

Jenn:  It didn’t suck.  I was happy to just find a movie that we could all watch together that wasn’t animated.
