Watching

Very impressed with the cast of this cult classic. I don’t think I was in the proper mood to appreciate it fully as I found it for the most part irritating and grating. Brad Pitt’s stoner character was my favorite.

Ayla and Evren decorating fans

Writing the kids’ names in Chinese

They had lots of great exhibits, I just forgot to pull my camera out until the very end. The kids played a traditional game and made a toy at the Korean booth. At the Indian table they got to have their names written in Hindi, and then took a quiz to win a prize. There was an exhibit showing how silk is made from silkworms that was absolutely fascinating and Evren got to take home a silkworm cocoon. And then before we left we watched traditional asian dances for a little while. Fun day!
Watching
We could not agree on what to watch tonight, and in the end, that was ok with us. Here is what was playing – one on each tv.

Ayla’s Review: The Game Plan was really funny. I wanted to watch it again because it was just so good, I guess. What else do you want me to say Mom?

Evren’s Review: Spongebob is my favorite cartoon. I watched 3 or 4 episodes and it was funny. Thanks for making me popcorn Mom. I’m just going to pee and go to bed now, is that ok?
[John Carpenter's] The Thing

Jenn’s Review: Fairly entertaining, and I did enjoy a younger Kurt Russell, but omg what a freak-fest.
Get Better Advice
Want your doctor to spend more time with you, and actually pay attention to you? Would love valuable advice from your boss or mentor? Like to get essential tips on pet care from your vet since you are paying a 150 bucks for that office visit anyway?
Great article from Lifehacker with a simple tip that really works.

We’d like to think that the people we’re paying for advice (like doctors) would offer the same helpful advice no matter what, but if you really want good advice, pull out a notebook and start taking notes—a phenomenon dubbed the Moleskine effect. The act of taking notes in front of others (especially doctors) entices them to give more time and better information. Unsure that this is a real cause-and-effect pattern, but it seems like one. It may be that when the moleskine comes out it signals the doctor that here is someone who will follow up on the advice that’s given and sets up a virtuous circle of sorts.

Ayla forced me to watch this, and it wasn’t the worst 2 hours I’ve ever spent. Not two of my favorite actresses, but tolerable. Oh wait, what? It’s not always about me?? Whatev.
Ayla and Cupcake loved it.

Current Addiction: Awkward Family Photos

If you thought you had some family portraits you never want to resurface and see the light of day again, you’ll feel a little bit better, I promise.
#1 First Task Completed!
I have officially completed my first task from my new 101 list!
#1 Review old 101 list, update, write a new one, post all to blog, link to Day Zero Project, and put a counter on blog
It was a little depressing reviewing all my unaccomplished tasks from my previous list, but I added many of those to my new list because I still want to do them, reevaluated some (because they were dumb) and came up with lots of great new tasks that I’m really excited about completing.
I submitted my list to the Day Zero Project and the link finally came up today. It’s on the Master List under Jenn’s 101 in 1001 with a start date of 2009/5/17 (USA).
Finding a countdown clock was the hardest part. Turns out WordPress.com does not support javascript or uploading plugins (or basically anything else except basic html) so it was a bit of a scavenger hunt via google. But I finally found something I was willing to live with at the Ticker Factory, and they have so many choices there it’s fun to play around with the combinations.
If you have created your own 101 list, do share!
No turning back now.
