The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

Completely fascinating, this is definitely one of my favorite historical non-fiction books of all time. This is the second time I’ve read it and it captivated me all over again. One of the main characters is the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 and what it took to pull off and execute that event is so extraordinary, it’s unbelievable.

The fair showed the world the first Ferris Wheel, named after the architect who designed it. A bit ambitious in size, it held over 2000 passengers!!

They painted all the buildings white, hence the name White City.
