I didn’t realize it as a young adult book, but realized after only a couple of chapters.  Of course it says so right on the back cover (age 14 and up).  It was a very quick read, short chapters, but it took a little while to get into the language (hip teenage future speak).  I generally enjoyed it, and thought the message was fantastic and timeless.

#34 Purge

Go through all closets and get rid of everything not used. Done.

Spring Cleaning

I had three huge bags of trash after the entire ordeal was over

3 bags to Goodwill

Always love the tax deduction

Hopefully add some funds to our vacation jar

But it feels good when it's done

Reading

Authentic Happiness by Martin E. P. Seligman, Ph.D.

Authentic Happiness

I love psychology but I loathe self-help books.  I thought this book might offer some true psych insight into happiness and be less ‘full of bullshit‘ like most self-help books.  And I was right, it did have a lot to offer.  That being said, while I think I learned a lot, I don’t think it will help me be a happier person.  You can’t know your way to more positive emotions.

Ask Again Later by Jill A. Davis

Ask Again Later

Picked this book up at a garage sale because I was in the mood for some chick lit and I thought the cover was cute.  It was pretty boring.  I have no idea how this book was a New York Times Bestseller as the cover claims.

Drinking

Mirassou Pinot Grigio

Mirassou Pinot Grigio

Mirassou California Pinot Grigio reveals intense aromas and flavors of peach, pear and citrus with crisp, lively acidity create an exceptionally refreshing wine.

I drank it out of a plastic cup with a dinner of pizza, but it was lovely and pleasant.  I would definitely recommend it.

(I don’t know anything about wine though, so I’m not sure you should take wine advice from me.)

The Annubis Gates by Tim Powers

the annubis gates

Someone close to me has this on their ‘must read’ list so I’ll refrain from revealing too much, but I will give my favorite passage:

“You’ve caused such a pandemonium that I’ll have to set a radiating disorientation spell to confuse the pursuit you’ve certainly roused.”

“What’s a pandemonium?” whispered one of the men in the rear.

“It’s like a calliope,” answered a companion.  “I heard one played at the Harmony Fair last summer, when I went there to see my sister’s boy play his organ.”

“His what?”

“His organ.”

“Lord.  People pay money to see things like that?”

#91 Take the Time to Enjoy the Rain

Sit on the porch when it’s rain and enjoy it  DONE!!

We had a crazy wild thunderstorm one evening recently and the next morning more rain passed through.  An early morning phone call from my boss gave me the good news …power’s out at work, no reason to go in early!!  So, the kids and I took the time to appreciate the rainy morning.
