The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
I told my friend M I didn’t want to read this book. She said she thought I would like it. Of course I knew about it. It’s a freakin’ overnight international sensation beloved by the masses. Destined to become a cult classic. Blech. I discovered that the movie was available through Netflix Instant Play so I started it one night when I was really, really bored. If I thought I was bored before I pushed play, I was sorely mistaken. I got about 7 minutes into it before I turned it off, wholely confidant in my original assumption about the story. Again, she asks me. Nope. Not interested. She tries to entice me to the theatre. The second in the series The Girl Who Played with Fire is showing, and maybe she can lure me out with the promise of drinks afterward. Again. No. Finally, in a bold move as she was invited to a birthday party at my house recently she just brings me the book and says, “Just read a few chapters.” Grr… Fine. FINE.
Of course she was right. I really did enjoy it. It was an excellent mystery, though highly disturbing and extremely graphic at times. There was a sadness that was unexpected as well. All intentioned and executed well.
Thanks M! Sometimes you just have to force me. :-)

Did you think it was poorly translated?

No! Not a good book to take camping! Take something sweet and innocent to read while you are laying in your tent. at night. in the dark. And yes, this is the first in the series. I am still undecided on whether I will read the others.

For this kind of story, I thought the translation was done well, decent at least. I am wondering if others have a different opinion?
