The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O’Farrell
A quote on the back cover of this book by The Washing Post Book World says “This Kate Chopin’s The Awakening…” which is one of my favorite novels of all time. I adore Kate Chopin and that story in particular, so obviously I couldn’t wait until I had a chance to read this book. I did enjoy it, but I felt it was a story best read quickly. Not one to read a chapter at a time. I can see where one might make a comparison to The Awakening or even Kate Chopin in general, but this book was much more raw, insensitive and unsophisticated. It was a good diversion, if a bit sad, but I enjoyed the read.
