A Brave Vessel: The True Tale of the Castaways Who Rescued Jamestown by Hobson Woodward
Fascinating book about a piece of history I know very little about – the settlement of Jamestown. I could have done without the chapters on how the writings of William Strachey influenced Shakespeare’s play The Tempest but the narrative on the shipwreck and eventual sailing to Jamestown was very interesting. The entire tale also reiterated the knowledge that many (most?) European settlers were entitled savages who had no regard for the Indians already living on the land and many passages were extremely brutal as the stories were recounted.
