Cold Mountain
My girlfriend Michelle started reading Cold Mountain recently so I decided to read it again too, with her.
(That’s right Michelle, I did just post your photo on the internet.)
The book is a bit tedious to start but is an absolutely beautiful story, that I would highly recommend reading, if you haven’t already. The movie is one of the better adaptations of a novel I’ve seen, with very little discrepancies between the book and the movie.

Earlier this summer we went fruit picking. It was an all day affair and we went to a blackberry field and a peach orchard and came home with a trunk full of fruit. It was totally worth it - the kids had a great day.

OK, yeah, this one was a bit staged. I need to teach my kids the finer points of acting natural.
Then, after all that, this was the highlight of their day.
After eating as many fresh ones as we could, we turned some of the blackberries into homemade blackberry ice cream. I still have a lot left in the freezer though. Maybe a cobbler or pie?
The peaches are in the freezer waiting to be turned into a cobbler. My good friend, Betty Crocker, sent me an e-mail the other day with recipes for peach cobblers, so I’ll do that soon.
Here is a not very well staged photo of the homemade blackberry ice cream just to prove that I actually made it.
It was ok. Not my favorite. I still have some in the freezer if you want to try it.
I finally got around to decorating Evren’s room - just finished it last week. Luckily, he loves it!

…and they go up exactly like the wallpaper border does. It’s ridiculously simple. I got those and the black & white checkered wallpaper border from Lowe’s. But, you can order them online also.

And you know what this means. I’ve started Weight Watchers. Again. The usual resolution.
Earlier this year I came across a great idea. It’s a list called ‘101 in 1001’. It’s a list of 101 things you want to accomplish and your timeline is 1001 days (or about 2.75 years).
If you know me, you know I love lists and here I’ve found the ultimate of all lists. It took me a couple of weeks to come up with my list and I’m going to share it. There’s a link to it here on the side of the page. I’ll keep it updated and make notes here in this blog along the way. I’ve already crossed off quite a few things from when I started this past summer.
