The Little Guy is FIVE

Non-stop birthday day fun, for Evren who turned five.

First stop:  Krispy Kreme.  We were on our way to the toy store, and needed some sugar.  And they were warm!

I let Evren pick “a small toy” (mistake) and it seemed like we would NEVER get out of there.

He couldn’t make up his mind to save his life.

He finally did decide, and by then we were all starving.  He got to choose where we went to lunch and he picked Burger King because “You never take us there Mommy.”

Burger, fries and lemonade slushie.

THEN, PARTY!

All his very best friends showed up and it was fabulous.

Talk about an ugly cake, I know, but it was surprisingly good!

LOVED all his presents!!

THEN, (oh yes, there’s more)…

BUILD-A-BEAR

He named this little guy “FurJoe”.

Then, dinner, his choice, a hot dog from Sonic.

He was a great sport about the first 150 or so photos I took that day, but I think this was a hint that he just wanted to finish his dinner in peace.

Anyway… it was a great day and we are still cleaning up the aftermath.  I have tons more pics and if you are interested I can send you the snapfish link - just email me.

Next stop…. Kindgergarten.

Compliment?

While shopping for a birthday present for one of Ayla’s friends, we find a very cool, kind of off-beat gift, that she thinks will be perfect and then she says to me….”yea, I think she’ll like it.  She’s wacky.  Well, I mean, not as wacky as you mom, but still… yea, I think she’ll like it.”

The Boys and the Subway

You have to go read this cute story about two little boys who are in love with the New York City Subway system, written by their dad.

My sons Arthur, 5, and Gustav, 3, are obsessed with the New York City subway system.

People often ask me for directions in the subway. Even though I know my way around rather well, I still have to defer to Arthur very often. Yet it seems people don’t trust the advice of a preschooler. They should.

Sculpture Culture

With friends we took the little ones to the Sculpture Garden for a field trip and I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, once I took Evren to a wildlife rescue center where we were super close up to amazing animals like white tigers and lions and he could’ve cared less. He played with the plastic lounge chairs at the yard the entire time. So, sculpture? Eh, all his friends were going, so I took a chance.

And they all loved it! They had their little brochures and went from sculpture to sculpture, asking what the name was, trying to find it on their map, asking questions - it was amazing. And totally worth it.

Here are some highlights…

Yes, In Fact, They Are Necessary

Just Now:

I’m in my office and Evren runs past me to the bathroom whilst declaring, “I have to go to the bathroom!”

Nothing unusual.

5 minutes pass.

He’s done and casually walks past my office again, where I take notice of what he actually has been doing in there for the last 5 minutes…

Jenn:  “Um, Evren?”

Evren:  (pauses)  “What?”

Jenn:  “Is it necessary to have 10 band-aids on?”

Evren:  (looks down, astonished)  “Mom!  I DON’T have 10 band-aids on! I only have… (counting) one. two. three. four. five. six. seven… I only have SEVEN band-aids on!!”  (walks away, and he may have even rolled his eyes at me)

Skillz

Evren, earlier today, when we both happened to be using scissors at the same time:

“Mom.  Your cutting skills are much better than mine.”
